Bi-folding Doors

Concertina doors are so-called due to their appearance when opening and closing. Many other terms have been used to describe them, such as accordion doors, fold-away doors, fold-back doors, folding doors, folding sliding doors and so on. Each of these terms specifically describes their operating action.

Once upon a time, bifold doors were only considered to be internal wooden doors. These doors were made from wooden frames that held wooden slats and were hinged together and ran on tracks contained in the ceiling. There were also flimsier variations of internal room divider, which were typically made up from slim vinyl panels. Nowadays, bi-folding doors are most likely to be considered as the glass panelled doors which can be used internally or externally. These are made from sturdy frames, which can be aluminium, uPVC, hardwood or softwood, encasing double glazing and hinged together. The door panels are set in a sturdy outer frame which typically contains the running tracks in the lower section. The doors are secured within the frame and modern tracks use high quality hardware to ensure smooth operation.

Modern folding doors from a good supplier are highly functional, attractive doors that can completely transform a space. Areas that were previously dark, airless and cramped can be transformed into wide bright spaces that can be opened up to create a pleasant airy atmosphere. Internally, these bifold doors can be used to separate rooms so that each room is virtually soundproof from the other, a benefit not offered by the older style of room dividers. In addition to this, the modern folding sliding doors can provide various different benefits, for example they can create a wall without blocking the light and the first panel operates as a normal door, so you can pass through without having to fold-back the entire wall of panels.
